Nicole Sotto, Esq. is the principal of Sotto Legal, LLC, a New York City boutique entertainment, digital media, intellectual property and business law firm. She is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
Nicole has been in the entertainment business for more than twenty years. She started as a young performer, training for fifteen years with Olympic-level coaches, and receiving the title, U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist, awarded to about 3% of skaters nationwide. She also worked for more than a decade as a commercial print model, SAG actor and producer. After decades of performance, she brings a unique mix and deeper understanding of her client’s needs to her law practice.
While completing her Juris Doctorate at the University of Connecticut School of Law, Nicole served as Co-President of the Arts, Entertainment, & Sports Law Society and as an editor of the International Law Journal. Prior to law school, Nicole has worked in corporate law on multi-million dollar M&A deals as a lead paralegal in the Latin American Department for Latham and Watkins LLP and then worked under New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo during law school.
Before founding Sotto Legal LLC, Nicole gained invaluable experience working with a multifaceted group of entertainment, IP and business law firms and their high-profile clientele. Currently, Nicole’s practice focuses on working with entertainment clients including, but not limited to, independent TV and film production companies, music professionals, entertainment companies, influencer talent and marketing agencies, content creators, actors, directors, writers, DJ’s, models, fashion designers, interior designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, photographers, painters, graphic designers, art galleries, and museums. Her business practice focuses on business contracts and business formation and her intellectual property practice focuses on trademarks and copyrights.
Nicole has been selected to Super Lawyers as a Rising Star from 2020 through 2023, an honor reserved for lawyers who exhibit excellence in their legal practice. Only 2.5% of attorneys in the New York Metro receive this distinction. She won the Martindale-Hubbell Client Champion Gold 2020-2024 and Entertainment Lawyer of the Year in New York by the Corporate Intl Magazine Global Award in 2019. She serves as a member of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and a member of the ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industry and New York City Bar Association. Her membership with both the Professional Skaters Association and the Screen Actors Guild has positioned her to be actively involved and to better understand the needs of performers.
Nicole is of Cuban descent and fluent in Spanish, she helps mentor minority law students through the Council of Legal Education Opportunity and supports the Hispanic entertainment community through Prime Latino Media.
During her free time, Nicole loves experiencing new cultures. She is an avid traveler and has traveled to over 35 countries.
